JULIE KIM
I’m Julie Kim, a Vancouver-based filmmaker and artist creating immersive experiences that reconnect people to nature through technology, sound, and moving image.
The ocean has been a constant source of healing in my life. I try to cold dip a few times a week, and being in the water has helped me process grief, stress, and many of life’s unseen wounds. YOU ARE HERE was born from a desire to bring a piece of that experience into urban spaces, creating a moment where people can slow down, breathe, and reconnect with themselves through our local waterways.
Using projection, sound, and digital media in a positive and intentional way, this installation explores how technology can deepen our connection to nature rather than distract us from it. I believe that when we feel closer to the natural world, we’re more likely to care for it, and for ourselves.
The living kelp forest featured in YOU ARE HERE was filmed locally at Ogden Point, reminding us that these extraordinary ecosystems exist right in our own backyard.
For me, installation art is a form of healing, an invitation to pause, feel present, and remember that we are part of nature, not separate from it.
